Girlguiding Bedfordshire: badge designs 2024-25
The first badge design was for Bletchley 24, an event at Bletchley Park for young members to explore and discover the world of coding and cryptography. The detailed illustration of the mansion came up a treat as a woven badge. The gear shape echoes that of the Bombe, the decryption machine at Bletchley Park that helped to crack Enigma, and there's a (not so) hidden message in Morse Code there too.
The second design was for a challenge badge accompanying the county's participation in The Short Tail Trail, a summer art trail raising funds for Keech Hospice Care. The Girlguiding Bedfordshire hare, named Artemis, was painted by young members and displayed in locations around Luton, before going on tour around the county. The night sky element of the badge obliquely refers to Artemis' namesake, a NASA moon mission, and I must have had Mid-Autumn festival somewhere in my mind too. The moon itself didn't make the final design, but the stars are in the section colours for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
The third design is for the county's newest challenge, the Woburn Safari Park Quest,
in partnership with Woburn Safari Park. The only stipulation, other than Girlguiding brand guidelines, was that a penguin be present – so I asked a local Young Leader (who works part-time at Woburn) all about her favourite animals!
